Our Orchards

Since we moved here in 2007, we have increased the number of apple and pear trees in the orchards, whilst sustaining traditional varieties, like Lord Lambourne. We also sell juices and ciders made from our own apples.

We are maintaining our traditional orchards, which elsewhere are a diminishing feature of the landscape. It is worth noting that our orchards are not commercial, rather we are sustaining traditional varieties of apples in a non-intensive, traditional orchard setting. The apples grown here include Discovery, Lord Lambourne, Russet, Cox, Bramley, Gala and Braeburn. We have traditional plum orchards which include Victoria, Swan, Heron, Prolific and damsons. Pears include Conference and Comice.

August sees the arrival of Heron & Swan plums, followed by Victoria. And the first homegrown apples are Discovery.

September is a joyous time of plenty of fruit from the orchard, including late Victoria & Marjorie’s Seedling plums, damsons, Russet & Lord Lambourne apples, and Conference & Comice pears.

The season finishes with the Autumn harvest in October, when we celebrate apples at our annual Apple Pressing Day.  You can find more information about this on our Community, Events page.
