The late Summer weather has been very welcome over the last few weeks. Lots of blue sky and feeling pleasantly warm in the sunshine. I don't think it is set to last too much longer, it has felt a lot cooler lately.
Home Grown Autumn Fruit
We continue to pick home grown fruits in the Ellenden orchards. Early morning starts for David, before he goes back to the farm to start drilling the fields and planting next year's crop.
We are currently picking:
- Conference pears
- Comice Pears
- Cox Apples
- Lord Lambourne Apples
- Russet Apples
- Braeburn Apples
- Bramley Apples (Limited supply)
There is no doubt both the apple and plum yields were severely affected by the late frosts in April when the blossom was in full bloom. Some of our pear trees, however are heavily laden.
We now have available the following cuts of fresh Wild Venison:
- Loin Steaks
- Loin Chops
- Leg Steaks
- Shank of Venison
- Boned & Rolled Shoulder of Venison
- Diced Leg and Shoulder of Venison
Something different to try, Venison is much lower in fat and Cholesterol than traditional meats, but high in iron and protein.
As always we are very happy to support local growers. This week we have cherry tomatoes grown in Wickhamford.
Making the most of the last of the summer fruits.
Homemade Pre-prepared Dishes
This week we have available homemade:
- Beef Bolognese
- Beef Curry
- Chilli Con Carne
- Cottage Pie
- Beef Lasagne
Convenient, easy meals that simply require reheating and serving, both made with beef reared at our farm. A customer told me today there are lots of easy convenient meals available, but often they do not taste great - Our pre-prepared meal range are easy and also very delicious!
Andrea has sourced some beautiful plants this week, deep rich colours of cyclamen, both indoor and outdoor plants.
Winter pansies add a welcome splash of colour to gardens as we head towards more grey days.
Christmas Order Form
Our Christmas order form is now available, after numerous requests from customers. If you have any questions regarding our ordering system over the festive period, please do not hesitate to ask.
We have been promised by our suppliers, the same number of turkeys we ordered last year, but also asked to keep a close eye on our orders, if we are getting close to this number, as they cannot guarantee being able to supply us with any more birds.
I would therefore advise placing your order when you know what you would like, but as always, I will always do my best to source whatever you require.
David and Toby have had some very late nights maize harvesting this week. I forget how much work is involved at this time of year, cultivating the land, drilling the new seeds and continuing to harvest the maize.
The animals here at Ellenden also appear to be enjoying the late summer sunshine.
Emily has returned to York University, and has enjoyed her first experience in an actual GP surgery on clinical skills placement, as opposed to a zoom session. The boys are settling well into their new schools, even managing to keep on top of their homework currently!!!! Grandad and Toby enjoyed a days Grouse Shooting on the Yorkshire Moors last Saturday, I think this photo tells a story of just how proud Grandad is of his eldest grandson.
Logs and Kindling are back in stock, ready for what is set to be an Autumnal weekend.
